EagleSpan Safety Columns and Stirrup Kick Rail System

EagleSpan Arenas have been designed from the ground up as arenas, not converted commercial buildings with tapered columns and flat, sharp-edged flange plates. Look closely at the interior flange of an EagleSpan arena and you will see a rectangular steel tube with rounded edges and smooth surface that will mitigate cutting into rider or horse flesh in the event of an accident. The column will be vertically straight thus keeping the rider's body and head away from the beam as opposed to a taper column which actually juts into the rider's space. Typically, EagleSpan Beams are factory painted (white) which greatly enhances natural light and virtually eliminates dark and "spooky" areas for the horse.

The EagleSpan stirrup kickrail system has been specifically designed for rider and horse safety. The top rail is to be set at 56" above grade and should slope from grade to top rail at 10 degrees. EagleSpan provides steel clips for attachment of the top tail to our EagleBeams. We suggest a concrete curb be poured at the base of the kickrail to absorb the damage incurred when dragging the arena and to keep the kickrail wood of the footing. The top and bottom structural members provided by EagleSpan are galvanized to minimize rusting and screws attaching the wood covering should be anodized or galvanized. Our recommendation for the wood covering for the kickrail is 2"x6" or 2"x8" tongue and grooved pine which can be cut into 4' lengths and installed on top of the concrete curb in a vertical position (click here to view diagaram). Once stained or sprayed with two (2) coats of polyurethane finish you should have a durable and beautiful finish.
