EagleSpan Safety Columns and Stirrup Kick Rail System EagleSpan® arenas are designed for horse and rider safety. Look closely at the interior flange of an EagleSpan® arena and you will see a rectangular steel tube with rounded edges and smooth surface that will mitigate injuries in the event of an accident. The column is vertically straight thus keeping the rider's body and head away from the beam. Typically, EagleSpan® beams are factory painted (white) which greatly enhances natural light and virtually eliminates dark and "spooky" areas for the horse. The EagleSpan® stirrup wall has been specifically designed for rider and horse safety. The top rail is to be set at a minimum 56" above grade and should slope from grade to top rail at 10 degrees. To prevent damage, we suggest a concrete curb be poured at the base of the stirrup wall. EagleSpan® supplies the top and bottom structural support members for the stirrup wall. We recommend a 2" x 6" or 2" x 8" tongue and grooved pine for the wood in fill. (click here to view diagram). |
