Natural Lighting & Ventilation
The EagleSpan® arenas and barns are not only some of the most attractive and functional structures available in the world today but have standard features that put them at the top of the "Most Desired Arenas" list. In addition to the safety features of straight columns for additional headroom, custom designed stirrup wall and rounded edge interior flanges, EagleSpan® pays close attention to two of the most often overlooked features, NATURAL LIGHTING and VENTILATION.
As a rider or equestrian facility designer, you already know that horses are creatures of flight, instantly running or shying from spots on the ground or dark, gloomy areas. Whenever possible, EagleSpan® recommends translucent wall panels or windows on the walls of the facility. We suggest the panels be installed under the eaves for more light area coverage. Typically, these panels are from 3' to 5' in height and run almost the full length of the facility. In warmer climates, single thickness panels are used and in areas where more insulation factors are needed, multi-walled panels with air chambers are recommended. When wall light panels are combined with our standard white painted beams, the best natural light is available. For enhanced natural lighting and ventilation, many of our customers add a monitor roof or clear-story to their facility. Additionally, this creates an architecturally pleasing feature. A very special side benefit of the clerestory is the ability to extract hot, stale air from the arena through clerestory wall mounted louvers whenever overhead doors or windows are open. The natural draw works both summer and winter.
